Thrival Kits™ are shoebox-sized kits that students fill with small, meaningful items as they complete classroom challenges and activities throughout the school year.

Activities are focused on mental health promotion; these daily practices protect and promote mental well-being.

A classroom-based approach to mental health promotion is far more effective than when mental health is taught using guest speakers or assembly events.


Guided by Teachers

Teachers hold an expert knowledge about what works in classrooms. That is why we co-created Thrival Kits™ with their input.


Built on Evidence

Thrival Kits™ were developed using evidence-informed approaches and strategies that are proven to work and are easy for teachers to use in the classroom.

Thrival KitsTM 2020

We've created some new weekly lessons that students can access remotely as we stay home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Weekly lessons will run from May 4-June 22 with video instructions available on YouTube.

Teaching Resilience

The goal of Thrival Kits™ is to help children grow up to be resilient, in order to prevent and minimize mental health issues in adolescence and adulthood.

Themes include:

  • Understanding the importance of mental health promotion.
  • Respecting yourself and others.
  • Empowering yourself with knowledge of your rights.
  • Feeling grateful for the present and hopeful about the future.
  • Celebrating your gifts, talents and strengths.
  • Living mindfully.

Thrival Kits™ are a collaboration between the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Manitoba and Winnipeg Office and the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth (MACY).

CMHA is a non-profit with over 100 years of leadership in community mental health. MACY is an independent office of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly; its mandate is to amplify the voices and protect the rights of children and youth.
